Update: 04/25/2014

It’s been awhile, but we just realized this script is broken (at least on our LMDE and CENTOS 6,5 systems), and just generally ugly in regards to usability, permission problems and error checking. It used to work… We’re in the process of fixing it.

For Debian-based distributions:

cd /usr/local/bin; wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi; chmod +x inxi; inxi -U; apt-get install sendmail-bin; service sendmail start; echo "Enter email we should reply to:"; read email; echo "Enter your message:"; read message; echo $message > /var/tmp/inxi.txt; inxi -v 7 -c 0 -rz >> /var/tmp/inxi.txt; cat /var/tmp/inxi.txt | mail -s 'inxi info' losstfeedback@gmail.com -r $email; inxi -v 7 -r

For ArchLinux and Pardus distributions:

cd /usr/bin; wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi; chmod +x inxi; inxi -U; apt-get install sendmail-bin; service sendmail start; echo "Enter email we should reply to:"; read email; echo "Enter your message:"; read message; echo $message > /var/tmp/inxi.txt; inxi -v 7 -c 0 -rz >> /var/tmp/inxi.txt; cat /var/tmp/inxi.txt | mail -s 'inxi info' losstfeedback@gmail.com -r $email; inxi -v 7 -r

For Red Hat-based distributions:

cd /usr/local/bin; wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi; chmod +x inxi; inxi -U; yum install sendmail; service sendmail start; echo "Enter email we should reply to:"; read email; echo "Enter your message:"; read message; echo $message > /var/tmp/inxi.txt; inxi -v 7 -c 0 -rz >> /var/tmp/inxi.txt; cat /var/tmp/inxi.txt | mail -s 'inxi info' losstfeedback@gmail.com -r $email; inxi -v 7 -r

    • Thank you for the comment and the great tools. Let us know if there’s anything about inxi or the smxi scripts you’d like us to write about. For example, on the inxi FAQ page, “Q: inxi output piped to ‘more’ looks weird”, another fix is to use more with the -f option: inxi -v7 | more -f and less with the -r option: inxi -v7 | less -r for terminals with a typical 80 character column width.
